Basic Guidelines
We want your jewelry to last for a lifetime so following some basic guidelines should help ensure that it does. Even though we all wear some of our pieces to bed, it is ideal to remove jewelry before going to sleep. Necklaces can get tangled and ring prongs can get caught on bedding which can result in loosening stones from their setting. Exposure to extreme temperatures can damage your gemstones so removing your jewelry before activities such as, but not limited to, taking a hot shower or a cold plunge is recommended.
To keep your jewelry looking its best, refrain from wearing it while cleaning, exercising, showering or swimming. Common things such as household cleaning agents and chemicals, lotions, perfumes, oils, and hairspray can be harmful to fine jewelry. So do not wear jewelry while cleaning and put your jewelry on after applying beauty products. Also, try not to wear jewelry when lifting weights or exercising as gemstones can chip, become loose or even fall out.
Cold water tends to shrink your fingers so be careful when washing your hands or swimming. If going swimming, it is best to remove your jewelry as chlorine can damage colored gemstones and breakdown the alloy mix in the gold. And if going to the beach, sand is abrasive and can scratch fine metals and certain gemstones.
Colored gemstones should be stored separately from diamonds to reduce the risk of scratching. When jewelry is not being worn it is best to keep your pieces separated in a jewelry box or in the individual pouches provided with your order. Keep your pieces free from debris by gently wiping them with the included polishing cloth.
How to Clean Your Jewelry
To clean your jewelry place it in a bowl of warm water with a dash of liquid soap (we like to use Dawn). Use a soft bristle toothbrush to really give your piece a good clean and rinse off with water. Dry your jewelry thoroughly before wearing or storing it. We do not recommend cleaning colored gemstones in an ultrasonic machine.
